Annapurna views, lakeside vibes, and Nepal's adventure capital
Pokhara is Nepal's second city and adventure gateway — a lakeside town with Himalayan panoramas, paragliding, and trekking trails. Very affordable with a well-established traveler/nomad community along Lakeside.
Maybe: stunning setting and very affordable, but internet is unreliable and infrastructure is basic.
Strong on cost of living (5.0/5), but weaker on english friendly (2.7/5).
Our estimate: $950/month. Biggest line items: Rent $420, Food $190, Entertainment $115.
Relocation readiness
Relocation requirements can change. Verify legal, residency, healthcare, and entry requirements with official sources before acting.
Review the current entry or residency notes for Nepal, then verify requirements with official sources before booking a long stay.
Confirm what health coverage you will have and how you would access care after arrival.
Prepare mobile data and a backup connectivity plan before you depend on remote work from Pokhara.
Use a short initial stay so you can test neighborhoods, commute patterns, noise, and work setup before choosing longer-term housing.
Check card access, cash needs, and backup payment options before departure.
Get reliable connectivity working before you rely on maps, messaging, bookings, or work calls.
Plan your first trips carefully and check whether you will need ride-hailing, taxis, or other transport for errands.
Save local emergency numbers and nearby clinic or hospital options in advance.
Test your internet, workspace comfort, and backup options before scheduling important calls.
Before extending your stay, compare longer-term housing options and confirm any local registration, tax, or residency steps that may apply.
Fresh
The overall city score is 6.9/10. Category scores use a 1-5 scale where higher means stronger for a typical remote-worker relocation decision.

$740 – $1,190/mo rangeOur estimate is about $950/month. Practical range: $740-$1,190/month.
Very affordable. Rooms along Lakeside run NPR 15,000–30,000/month ($110–$225). Apartments with lake or mountain views available. Guesthouses offer monthly rates from NPR 10,000. Some modern apartments in Pokhara New Road area.
Subtropical to temperate (800m elevation). Warm summers (25–32°C). Monsoon (June–September) brings very heavy rain and cloud cover obscuring mountain views. Winters are cool (5–18°C). Dry season has clear Himalayan views. Best months: October–November, March–April.
Internet is the main challenge — 5–33 Mbps typical, with outages. Some Lakeside cafés have better connections. Mobile data (Ncell, NTC) provides backup. Starlink is beginning to appear in some guesthouses. Power more stable than before but backup recommended.
Safe town with low crime. Trekking safety requires proper preparation and guides. Monsoon brings landslide and flooding risk. Road conditions deteriorate in rain. Paragliding operators vary in safety standards — choose carefully.
Western Regional Hospital and Manipal Hospital handle basics. For serious medical needs, Kathmandu (25 min by flight) or medical evacuation is necessary. Trekking insurance with helicopter evacuation coverage recommended.
Local buses and taxis. Tourist buses to Kathmandu (6–7 hours by road). Pokhara Airport has domestic flights to Kathmandu (25 min). New Pokhara International Airport opened but has limited services. Lakeside is walkable. Bicycle rental available.
Nepal offers visa on arrival at Kathmandu airport — 15 days ($30), 30 days ($50), 90 days ($125). Extensions available. No digital nomad visa. Very easy entry.
