Climate
Subtropical with mild winters. Average 22–30°C year-round. Summers are hot (33–36°C) with afternoon thunderstorms. Winters are mild (14–22°C) and drier. Typhoon season June–October. Significantly sunnier than Taipei. Best months: October–April.
Remote Work
Fast internet standard (100+ Mbps fiber, gigabit available). Growing number of coworking spaces. Cafés are very laptop-friendly with good WiFi. The Gold Card community creates networking opportunities. Time zone works for Asian and Australian clients.
Safety
Very safe. Taiwan has low crime rates overall. Taichung is no exception. Earthquake risk exists across Taiwan — modern buildings are built to code. Typhoons bring heavy rain but are well-managed.
Healthcare
Taiwan's National Health Insurance is world-class and affordable (~NT$900/month for NHI if enrolled). Taichung Veterans General Hospital and China Medical University Hospital offer excellent care. Some English-speaking doctors available.
Transport & Walkability
Green Line MRT opened recently but coverage is limited. Extensive bus network (free within 10 km with EasyCard). Taiwan High Speed Rail to Taipei takes 50 minutes. Taichung Airport has some international flights. Scooter is the local default — rental starts at NT$2,500/month.
